We are, all of us, dwellers in a landscape thick with Stuff. Tasks stack upon tasks; notifications blink and buzz; lists, both digital and mental, seem to grow rather than shrink. The world spins on, faster and faster, and we—the would-be orchestrators of order—often find ourselves swept up by the relentless rhythm of busyness. It is here, amid the noise, that the "Chaos and the Calm" collection takes root. This collection is not merely a meditation on chaos, nor is it a naive celebration of tranquility. Instead, it is a playful, honest dance between the two, an invitation to notice the miniature sanctuaries of calm that persist even in the wildest days.
Inspired by the timeless beauty of William Wordsworth’s poem ‘Lines Written In Early Spring’. Fresh, vibrant, and energetic. Just like the garden at Rydal Mount.
Beneath the awakening sky, petals unfurl with the faintest blush of dawn, each leaf trembling with the promise of new beginnings. The air is alive with birdsong, their melodies threading through the gentle labyrinth of blossoming branches and emerald moss. Dappled sunlight flickers upon dew-bright grass, illuminating the riot of wildflowers—primrose and violet, bluebells nodding in the morning breeze. In each breath, the pulse of nature is vivid and electric, inviting the heart to leap with spring’s irrepressible energy.
This collection is about my desire to paint and create surface texture and pattern, allowing myself the freedom to do just that without any preconceived ideas. Letting the painting take me on its journey, being open and following what my subconscious is telling me. I am trusting the process to provide the answers, nurturing my own soul and desires.
Powerful Nature is a collection of paintings that explores the strength of the natural world—and our place within it. In spring, hedgerows brim with colour and life; left to thrive, they return each year, offering shelter and food for birds, bees and other wildlife. This work is an invitation to notice what is nearby, and to take pleasure in the simple, enduring rhythms of nature.
